In December Cheltenham Town Football Club turned blue during a home game the first time in the club’s history for a great cause.

The Robins wore a one-off blue strip for the Sky Bet League Two fixture against Crewe Alexandra on Saturday, December 9 to raise awareness of the British Lung Foundation, the only UK charity looking after the nation’s lungs.

The idea was the brainchild of the Robins Trust, who worked closely with the club and the charity in creating an event to put on a show of togetherness with the club's fitness coach Ian Hutton and his fiancée Vicky Veness.

Vicky was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer last year.

The 30-year-old personal trainer, runner, non-smoker and healthy eater received the shock diagnosis despite looking perfectly fit and healthy and has set out to challenge preconceptions about the illness.

The Robins wanted to play their part and by turning blue for one match only, they were able to create awareness of this important cause, and raise vital funding in the process.

Working in partnership with AMS Auctions, the club are auctioning each shirt from the playing squad with every penny going to the British Lung Foundation.

Please note: Neither Scott Flinders or Rhys Lovett wore a special British Lung Foundation shirt, while Jamie Grimes' match worn jersey was auctioned in the hospitality areas immediately after the game. The supporters voted on the day to bid for Danny Wright's shirt, which was auctioned by TV presenter and writer Tom Watt in the main bar.
